How to fix a computer that is freeze and unresponsive

1. Fix by resetting the video driver

Sometimes, when programs or games freeze, or when there are issues with display or graphics, it may be due to an error with the video driver. To address this, press Ctrl+Shift+Win+B to notify the computer to check the graphics system.

When you press Ctrl+Shift+Win+B, the screen will briefly go blank to perform the check. If the issue is resolved, it should return to normal operation.

2. Fix it by closing the program completely

Even if we love our work, if suddenly the program freezes and becomes unresponsive, we usually start by trying to close the program to restart our work. However, sometimes we can’t even move the mouse to close the program. If we’re in a game, closing it usually requires following the game’s exit procedures, like navigating to the menu and selecting ‘Exit.’ If nothing is responsive, what can we do?

• Close Using Shortcut
  • Press Alt + F4 as a shortcut to close the program.
• Close Using Task manager
  • Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete 
  • Task manager or Command + Option + Esc for Mac —> Force Quit Application

If the Task Manager you opened is also not responding and appears to be stuck, stay calm and follow these steps:

• To open the Task View, press the Windows key + Tab simultaneously.
• Then, try closing both the Task Manager and the ‘Not Responding’ programs.
• If you can only close the Task Manager, click the + button next to ‘New Desktop’ to create a new desktop. Then, open the Task Manager in the new Desktop to close the unresponsive program.

3. Fix by restarting the computer

• Restart through Task Manager
  • Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete —–> Power —–> Restart
• Restart through Hardware Reboot
  • Press and hold the Power button on the device for approximately 3-5 seconds until the screen or the device turns off. Then press the Power button again to turn the device back on.
