How to move Google Authenticator to a new phone

1. Open the Google Authenticator app.

2. Click the hamburger menu in the top-left corner and select ‘Transfer accounts’.

3. Select ‘Continue’ and Authenticator.

4. The default settings will be selected for all accounts, but if you don’t want certain ones, you can uncheck them by tapping the checkmark 🗸. Once done, click Export.

5. On the ‘Transfer Accounts’ screen of your new smartphone, tap ‘Import Accounts’ and then tap the ‘Scan QR Code’ button. The app will open the camera, allowing you to scan the QR Code displayed on your old smartphone.

6. Perform a scan to migrate account data from the old machine to the new machine.

7. After the data migration to the new device is complete, on the old smartphone, tap “Next.” You will be given an option to keep the account data or not. For security reasons, it’s best not to have multiple devices generating OTPs, so you should select “Remove Exported Accounts” and tap “Done.” If you wish to keep the accounts, select “Keep Exported Accounts”.
