Fail to receive email after transferring domain to Cloudflare

If you have recently transferred your domain to Cloudflare and you are not able to receive emails properly, the most probable reasons is that your DNS mail records is not setup correctly.

After you have transferred your domain to Cloudflare, request to your website will be proxied to Cloudflare’s server for speedy content delivery. If your mail records are not setup properly in Cloudflare’s DNS, your email will also be directed to the proxy server instead of your mail server.

Verify your mail records on Cloudflare to prevent email receipt issues

To ensure proper delivery of email, you will need to verify or perform the following DNS updates.

  1. If your using gmail or MS365 as your email server, no further action/step is required.
  2. For non-gmail and MS365 Exchange user, you will need to verify/update for DNS records as follows:
    • Create/Update mail record to point to the mail server IP (using “DNS only” proxy status)
    • MX record to point to mail.yourdomain.com (using “DNS only” proxy status)
