How to Set Up a Firewall Rule

Windows Firewall

1. Open Windows Firewall:

  • Go to Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Defender Firewall.
  • Click on Advanced settings on the left side.

 

2. Create a New Rule:

  • In the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security window, select Inbound Rules or Outbound Rules depending on the type of rule you want to create.
  • Click on New Rule… on the right side.

 

3. Choose Rule Type:

  • Select Program if you want to create a rule for a specific program.
  • Select Port if you want to create a rule for a specific port.
  • Select Predefined if you want to use a pre-configured rule.
  • Select Custom for more advanced configurations.

 

4. Configure the Rule:

  • If you selected Program, specify the path of the program you want to control.
  • If you selected Port, specify the port number you want to allow or block.
  • Set the action to Allow the connection or Block the connection.
  • Choose the profiles that the rule will apply to (Domain, Private, Public).

 

 

5. Name and Finish:

  • Name the rule and provide a description (optional).
  • Click Finish to create the rule.
