Installing Ubuntu Desktop

1. The first thing is for everyone to download the ISO file of Ubuntu by going to https://ubuntu.com/ and then selecting the Downloads tab and clicking. “Green button 18.04 LTS” on Ubuntu Desktop

2. Go to the website https://rufus.ie/ and scroll down and you will see the word download. Click “Rufus 3.5” or “Rufus 3.5 portable”

3. Flash drive size 4GB or more (must be a flash drive or ready to format -> all data inside will be lost) will all use USB2.0 or 3.0.

4. Uubuntu Desktop ISO file (ubuntu-18.04.2-desktop-amd64.iso) and Rufus program.

5. Next, open the Rufus program and select the flash drive you want to use (1), then select the word “SELECT” (2) and select the Ubuntu Desktop ISO file. Once everything is selected, press the START button.

6. First, insert the flash drive that we made bootable into the machine. Then press the key to enter the boot options [depending on the brand. For Asus machines, press ESC] and select Boot to the flash drive and the machine will boot. Come to the settings page as follows.

Note : On this page, we are asked to select the language used. Select [English] and press [Continue]

7. Next will be setting the Keyborad layout. You can set additional settings later. Here I select [English (US)] > [English (US)] and press [Continue].

8. For this one, it will be the network settings page. Check [I don’t want to connect to a wi-fi network right now] and we can set it up later.

9. This is the topic Update and Other software. Select [Normal installation] and press

[Continue].

Note : When you arrive at this page, you will select the installation format as follows.

10. Install Ubuntu alongside Window Boot Manager => This is because our machine already has Windows and we can install Ubuntu over it. We have to choose in Windows Boot Manager whether we want to boot first as Windows or Ubuntu (information in Disk will not be recovered.)

11. Erase disk and install Ubuntu => I will choose this one. Delete all data on the disk and install Ubuntu Then press [Install Now].

12. Then there will be a page: Write the changes to disks? It comes up saying “I will delete all data and divide the partitions as follows”, then press [Continue].

13. It will take you to the page for setting the time zone. Use the mouse to point to Thailand on the world map or use the keyboard to type Bangkok, then press [Continue].

Note : When you arrive at this page, you will be able to manage users. The details are as follows:

  1. Your name: It’s just your name. You can enter anything.
  2. Your computer’s name : This is the name of the computer. We can change or set anything.
  3. Pick a username : This will be our user account.
  4. Choose a password : This is the password for this username (this password will also be the password for the root user. Root’s password can be changed later.
  5. Then press [Continue].

14. When the installation is complete, a dialog will appear, press [Restart Now] and the machine will reboot once. and is ready to use
