How to Use Remote Access Tools

Remote access tools allow you to control a computer from a distance, which is useful for technical support, working from home, or managing servers. Here’s a general guide on how to use these tools

1. Choose a Remote Access Tool

  • TeamViewer: Easy to use and supports multiple operating systems.
  • AnyDesk: High performance with seamless remote access features.
  • Chrome Remote Desktop: Access through the Google Chrome browser.
  • Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP): Built into Windows for accessing Windows PCs remotely.

2. Installation and Setup

TeamViewer

Download and Install: Download TeamViewer from the TeamViewer website and install it on both computers (the one to be controlled and the one used for controlling).

Open TeamViewer: Launch the application on both machines.

Get ID and Password: The computer to be checked will display an ID and password in the main window.

Connect: Enter the ID and password on the controlling computer and click “Connect”.

AnyDesk

Download and Install: Download AnyDesk from the AnyDesk website and install it.

Open AnyDesk: Open the application.

Get AnyDesk ID: The computer to be controlled will display an ID.

Connect: Enter the ID of the computer to be controlled in the application and click “Connect”.

Chrome Remote Desktop

Install Extension: Install the “Chrome Remote Desktop” extension from the Chrome Web Store.

Set Up Remote Access: Open Chrome Remote Desktop and follow the setup steps, including installing additional software and creating a PIN.

Connect: Use your Google account to access and connect to the configured computer.

Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP)

Enable Remote Access: On the Windows computer to be controlled, go to “Control Panel” > “System and Security” > “System” and click “Remote settings”. Select “Allow remote connections to this computer”.

Find IP Address: On the computer to be controlled, find the IP Address by using the ipconfig command in Command Prompt.

Connect: On the controlling computer, open the Remote Desktop application (search for “Remote Desktop Connection” in Windows), enter the IP Address of the computer to be controlled, and click “Connect”.

3. Using the Remote Access Tool

  • Control Remotely: Once connected, you can control the remote computer as if you were sitting in front of it.
  • File Transfer: Some remote access tools, like TeamViewer and AnyDesk, support file transfer between computers.
  • Security Settings: Check security settings, such as using strong passwords and enabling two-factor authentication if available.
