PuTTY stores its saved session settings within the Windows Registry. To export and import these settings to another computer, follow these steps:

Step 1: Exporting PuTTY Settings:
  • Open Registry Editor: Press Win + R to open the Run dialog, type regedit, and press Enter.
  • Navigate to PuTTY’s Registry Key: In the Registry Editor, navigate to the following path:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SimonTatham\PuTTY\Sessions
  • Export the Sessions: Right-click on the Sessions folder, select Export, and save the file with a descriptive name (e.g., putty_sessions.reg) to a location you can easily access.
Step 2: Importing PuTTY Settings:
  • Transfer the Exported File:Copy the putty_sessions.reg file to the new computer where you want to import the settings.
  • Merge the Registry File:Double-click on the putty_sessions.reg file.
  • Confirm Import:You will be prompted with a warning about adding information to the registry. Click Yes to proceed, and then OK on the confirmation message.

You should now be able to access the newly imported session(s) in PuTTY.
