Lync Mobile Auto-Detect Server Feature

This article applies to Exchange 2010/2013/2016 customers only.

Lync Mobile clients for iOS, Android and Windows Phone can be set up with user’s email address and mailbox password only (without the need to enter Internal and External Discovery URLs).

To use this feature, the following DNS records need to be created for the domain:

  1. Lyncdiscover – a CNAME record for the subdomain Lyncdiscover.yourdomain.com that points to:
    • lyncpool1.exch0XX.serverdata.net for the Exchange domains < EXCH083EXCH500 and EXCH580
    • skypepool1.exch0XX.serverdata.net for the Exchange domains > EXCH083
  2. Autodiscover – a CNAME record for the subdomain Autodiscover.yourdomain.com that points to ar-[east/west].exch0XX.serverdata.net
    Note:
the record is needed only for Exchange features (e.g. conversation history)

Note: the correct records for your account can be found on the Home > Exchange servers and settings page. In lyncpool1.exch0XX.serverdata.net / skpepool1.exch0XX.serverdata.net, exch0xx should be replaced with the Exchange Domain for your account. Autodiscover record is also shown on this page. Read the Knowledge Base article on What Is An Autodiscover Record And Why Do I Need It? for more information.

Once the above records are in place, users with primary email address [@domain.com] can set up Lync Mobile using the following settings:

  • Sign-in Address: primary email address of the mailbox
  • Password: mailbox password
  • User Name: primary email address of the mailbox
  • Auto-Detect Server: ON
