How to Troubleshoot and Fix Your Mouse Scroll Issues

1. Reconnect the Mouse
Unplug and replug it into a different USB port. For wireless mice, reconnect via Bluetooth or receiver.

2. Replace Batteries
Low battery power can cause erratic behavior. Swap them out to rule this out.

3. Clean the Scroll Wheel
Dirt and debris can affect scrolling. Gently clean around the wheel area.

4. Check the Touchpad
If using a touchpad, water or debris can interfere with scrolling.

5. Review Mouse Settings
Reset mouse settings in Windows or adjust scroll preferences on macOS.

6. Update or Roll Back Drivers
Use a driver updater tool, or roll back recent driver changes if scrolling stopped after an update.

7.Repair System Files
Corrupt files can cause malfunctions. Use system repair tools.

8.Try Another Mouse
Test with a known working mouse to isolate the issue.

9.Factory Reset (Last Resort)
If all else fails, consider a full OS reset to fix deep software problems.

Causes of Mouse Wheel Not Scrolling
When the mouse won’t scroll, there are two issues that most commonly cause it. The first is the accumulation of dust and dirt, which can cause mechanical issues with the mouse wheel. The second is low battery levels in wireless mice.

However, these aren’t always the root cause. Other issues include incorrect mouse settings, corrupt system files, or a mouse that’s incompatible with your device.
